The car has been raced extensively since 2000 with documented first, second, and third place finishes in class. The car has been accepted by, and raced with the following historic/vintage race associations: VRG, SVRA, HSR, VARAC, VDCA, and SCCA Historic Race Group series, as well as other specialty events such as Lime Rock Fall Festival and Summit des Legendes ( 2002-2010). Complete race results from 2000 are included with the sale of the car. Race results from the 1970-80’s are also included.

The car raced SCCA American Sedan (A/S) Class from 1974 to about 1981. With Many documented race results from this period ( included in sale).

Claude Safer and Larry Merricks raced newer cars in SCCA GT-1 class after selling the Mustang. Larry Merricks retired from GT-1 racing around 2005. Claude Safer continued to race after that time. Howard Mahoney is (was?) an SCCA Starter at Summit Point in West Virginia. Steve Francis still owns a race and restoration shop in New Britain, Connecticut. 

The car was converted to GT-1 specs around 1984. Steve Francis cut all the front tube frames out and reinstalled the inner fender structure and restored the car back to A/S specs. (Pictures included with the sale).
